Choosing a Partner and Entering a Marriage

When looking for love many individuals are not sure where to start. Often individuals tend to seek out a partner in all the wrong places, for all the wrong reasons, and eventually they end up in the wrong relationships. The truth is you must seek God’s will in every area of your life carefully, and allow him to lead you to the person you are seeking. I must emphasize that you guard your heart. Be mindful of what you allow to enter your heart and what you let out of your heart. You absolutely must learn to love yourself before you can truly give love to someone else. I always believe that God is love, and if you are in the process of seeking a partner you must turn to God to assist you when making that choice.

I personally was not looking for love, it actually found it’s way to me 8 years ago. I found love by chance! We both crossed paths at the right place , he asked me out the day we met, I said “yes” for all the right reasons, and today we remain happily married. That goes to show you that sometimes when you stop meddling and let faith run its course you will receive a precious gift of a life-long partner to call your own. Many people choose to create lists of specific things, and certain characteristics that they desire in a potential significant other. Others decide to pray earnestly for a faithful man of God, a provider, a leader, and overall a husband who will be the head of their household.

Do not choose a partner simply because you feel lonely, or have needs, or want to be spoiled, or want someone financially to support you, or you are trying to fill a void caused by your parents, or you want to find a new mom/dad for your child. God knew that it was not good for man to be alone thats why he made a help meet…So he also knows that you desire a mate. Once you ask him for your choice (the person you want him to send) , be patient to wait for God’s choice (the person he made just for you).

When entering a marriage my advice is to love the lord with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. A spouse that loves and serves the Lord, will also love and serve you. When you make a promise to your Spouse, always keep your word. Never go to bed angry with your spouse, he/she should be your best friend forever… until death do you part. Communication is key, talk it out! Newly weds I urge you to build your marriage on a foundation of trust, honesty, kindness, grace, affection, forgiveness, honor, love, and mutual respect.

Marriage is not about having a 10karat diamond ring, it is a sacred covenant of enduring faithfulness to one another, and a life long commitment that should not be broken until the Lord comes or until death. Once you become someone’s husband/ wife, it is wise to leave your parent’s house and start your new family in a home of your own. Remember that you are no longer two single people, you have become one flesh joined together by God. When considering being fruitful and multiplying make sure that you establish a secure, and loving environment for a child. Many children today are born outside of marriage or suffer due to a dissolution of a marriage. Spouses considering procreation must come to an agreement to make their marriage work no matter what life brings because children need security and truly do not function well with instability.

Never compare your spouse, your marriage, or your life to your neighbor’s. Lastly, let me be the first to inform you that the grass is not always greener on the other side. Imagine that you had the greenest, moist grass on the block, but you began to compare your grass to your neighbors’. Then you stopped mowing the law, raking the leaves, filling in bald spots, fertilizing the soil, controlling the weeds, and your neighbor’s lawn remained the same, while you are now stuck with dry yellowish-brown grass. How would you feel??
